The precinct is one of them games that grabs you and doesn’t let you go, ok ill admit that at the start of the game I was very sceptical due to the voice acting of the characters but this lasted all of five minutes, the voices remind me of your typical 80s cop shows and actually work really well.
The gameplay is something of dreams, starting out your just a rookie new to the force and your taught the ropes from traffic stops all the way to shoot outs. The game then gives you the choice of what you want to do, fancy walking the beat go ahead or do you fancy traffic violations that’s totally up to you.
Precinct reminds me heavily of old school grand theft auto it has this top down view but its angled so you can see more (isometric) it doesn’t stop there however the events around the map also remind me of the glory days of playing video games and its bliss.
Around the map you will find little mini games if you will, time trials, races, collectables and more so make sure your on the look out when your walking the beat because why wouldn’t you want to grab all them goodies.
When your on a mission you will be running plates, checking id’s and arresting suspects but you don’t just arrest a suspect you have choices to make. what law did they break? Do you arrest them? Do you let them go? These choices are all at your disposal and this alone makes for some great gameplay design. Each shift feels so unique from the last and this makes the game seriously replayable.
The precinct has a levelling system and a skill tree it works a little like this, you go out on a mission (walking the beat, chasing the bad guys, stopping speeding vehicles) whatever you have chosen to do on that shift, upon returning to HQ when your shift ends you will net that days experience in turn ranking up as an officer. Ranking up will net you skill points that you can spend on the skill tree, not only do you net skill points you get to unlock new areas to explore, new weapons, vehicles and tons more.
Overall the game is something of beauty, its fun, hectic and from the get go you will be hooked, I have seriously enjoyed my time exploring the city fighting crime and on occasions I have struggled to put this game down. so what are you waiting for rookie get out there and protect this city.
