I have been seriously hyped for RuneScape Dragonwilds since its announcement. So you can imagine the rush to the pc this evening when steam said it had been released.
Upon loading the game you’re met with a character creation while limited in design it does the job and you can create some cool character from it well in standard runescape fashion.
Now we enter the game and the world looks amazing, visuals are stunning and the area is light and vibrant, we speak to the wise old man and he sends us our tutorial. The tutorial consists of bumping into a few old characters in the world Doric, Van and more each giving you a task (teaching you how to do something)
One of the missions is to gather 50 wood, now this is where my first issue arises, just how long it takes to chop down one tree we are talking 5 cuts to fell the log and then another 20 cuts to get the wood out of it. This can feel very tedious when you’re trying to build a house.
Leveling up in the game feels so nice however not every level gives you a new unlock and the starting levels feel like they fly while later levels don’t again in standard runescape fashion.
Crafting feels very quick and simple which is a really nice touch to the games. You can stack items in the cooking pot and go about doing things without watching it aswell.
Building a house in the game was so tedious trying to get all the wood for a 4×4 hut to find out they have no flat roofing so you have to juggle all the sloped roofing to make it all fit.
Combat in the game feels very nice however the stamina bar really hinders it. 5-10 swings of your weapon will have you at 0 stamina and dodging also costs stamina. I found myself always running out within combat especially within a multi combat situation.
Overall the gameplay is good and the game feels really fun however I do feel like things could be a lot better or thought out a little more especially when games like enshrouded exist and do these things a lot better.

Did think that it gave Enshrouded/Valheim vibes. Seems like a low bar development choice for them – RuneScape has it’s own feeling.
