About The Game
Holy Shoot is a fast-paced roguelike FPS packed with chaos, style, and comedy. Start as a Sanctum warrior and battle through sin-themed levels filled with traps, demons, and bizarre bosses. Upgrade your powers, unlock new heroes, and blast your way through hell one ridiculous run at a time.
The Hub
Starting out within the world of Holy Shoot we are introduced to a bit of back story and who doesn’t love a bit of back story. Long story short the gates of hell have opened up and you the Holy Warriors (changed the name for review purposes) have to put things right.
The game plays out in a first person aspect which is nice because you don’t really see many roguelikes that take this stance nowadays and I feel it adds an extra layer of difficulty.
You start out within the Hub area, I want to call it Olympus but I might be wrong it’s a grand hall surrounded by statues each accompanied by their own bazaar if you will. Zeus or someone that resembles Zeus sits upon a big table at the end of the hall, while other characters mingle around the floors.
Interacting with Zeus will allow you to apply skill points to yourself but more on this later for now let’s take a dive into the actual gameplay side of things.

Gameplay
Once you have your bearing step on the portal in the middle of the grand hall. Now before entering the map you will need to make a crucial choice, which one of the 3 skills are you going to take. Will you choose the thunder, frost or I want to call it necromancy but I’m not sure. Either way you need to choose one of the skills, this skill becomes our auto skill.
Once you’re on the map you will quickly realise your character has two abilities of their own as well one is bound to E and the other Q (at least I think that was the default button I did some remapping because I got seriously addicted to this). As you approach your first area you will notice a challenge pop up in the corner of the screen, this will be something like kill 8 enemies without using your dash ability or something of this nature. Once completing this you will get a little fairy occupancy you got 90 secs or 60 secs, the fairy will help fight, and heal you over time.
Now you have stepped out into the overgrown ruins of this place you have been spawned into, you now have to dispatch the enemies. Once this is done you will find yourself in a room with multiple things one of them is a healing well then you have a shop, an upgrade bench of sorts, a level up station and a chest. The healing will only provide 10 or so hit points so it really isn’t a source of saviour here it’s just a little pick me up between zones, the chest will spawn 3 weapons for you that can range from Aks, Tommy guns, flame throwers, rocket launchers, pistols, shotguns, smgs and sniper rifles, each weapon has its own feel and gameplay not one weapon is the same a the other. Leveling up in this room gives you the ability to choose a perk you would like to add think of how most Roguelikes will drop an orb it’s pretty much that system but in the form of a level up system instead.
Progressing through the map you will come to a boss, killing the boss will then initiate the second part of the run and so on.
When you eventually die because let’s face it that’s the aim of the game, you will find yourself back at Olympus.

Progression
Upon finding yourself back at Olympus you will be able to interact with other characters around and some of them will now be playable, other than this you can now use Zeus to level up and I could not figure out how I was earning these items to unlock perks so I cant actually tell you how to obtain them.
The game does offer an amazing variation on these perks though allowing for some really cool gameplays.

Our Thoughts
In terms of Roguelites I would put Holy Shoot up there with the likes of Returnal and Ravenswatch. The gameplay is fast paced fun and balanced, the game seems fair and when you die you don’t feel cheated out of the victory.
Gunplay is very fluid and feels good which is something that seems difficult to get right for most developers on pc.
Upgrades and progression happens at a reasonable pace that doesn’t make the player feel bored.
There are multiple characters to play too which adds a nice dynamic to the game.
TLDR
Faced paced first person Roguelite with steady progression, upgrades and characters to unlock.
