Gameplay
Whimside offers a very laid back experience which is something I am certainly not used to considering the chaotic games I am used to playing. The game itself sit at the bottom off your screen allowing for your to work and have the game open at all times offering a really relaxed way to game while you are at work or just browsing through content online, Infact I am actually playing while I write the review about it which is something I have never done before but here we are.
The game is a merging game of sorts you find collect different animals and each animal will have a different attribute for instance, dog, bee, none, auburn. These are the animals attributes don’t ask how a bee and a dog mix genes but in Whimside they do.
Breeding / Gem Collecting
As you play through Whimside you will be able to place two animals into breeding this give you the opportunity to breed certain genes that you are looking for in order to progress, While this is not a guaranteed way of getting the genes you want its faster than waiting for an animial to spawn with the correct gene pool.
You will eventually unlock a garden you can decorate, in this environment you are able to place an animal, having an animal in this area will provide you with gems the higher the rarity of the animal the more gems it will provide you. In the picture below the animal I have in the garden is currently providing me 31 gems each time it drops.
You will be able to use these gems to level up certain things such as unlocking the ability to obtain 2 eggs at once from breeding pairs, or having a second animal in the garden. These unlocks will provide a faster way to progress through the game instead of waiting for extended periods of time in order to get things done.
Resource Consumption
Now if a game is going to run at the bottom of your screen you in order for you to do other day to day tasks while playing it needs to be limited on the amount of resources it uses, this in turn will allow the person playing enough power to carry on doing other tasks. Now this is not something I would normally put in a review but while this game is not the generic game we see I though considering what it is trying to achieve we will include it.
I can safely say that the game only uses 16 percent of an intel i5- 12400H and I would say that it could run on pretty much any pc rig considering the graphics used within the game. so it preforms as indented too.
Our Thoughts
Whimside is a fun cosy game to play while doing other things such as working, browsing, or even writing this review, however I feel having this game open is actually distracting me from writing the review I set out to write.
The game offers quite a few variations of features but ultimately its a collection that sits at the bottom of your screen. The Twitch integration is good and it allows people that sub to the channel etc to boost rarity of spawns, but this doesn’t offer nothing for the common user.
Breeding can take a while to put out the genes your actually looking for in an animal, the game does say its slow paced but it would seem there isn’t much progression happening if I can’t get these genes to progress.
TLDR
Cute game that sits at bottom of screen, Collect, breed and maintain animals to progress, Low Resource usage.
