“Eerie Horror That Let Down By Performance Issues”

About The Game

COLD ABYSS is a relaxing and atmospheric exploration game where you repair internet cables on the bottom of the ocean. There are no enemies or other forms of danger down there. Just you.

Gameplay

Cold Abyss is a first person horror which see’s you the player take control of a diver that sent on a deep dive to fix ten broken wires for a communications company. The gameplay is eerie and ominous, you will need to keep and eye on your oxygen levels as you move through the depths of the ocean.

There is defiantly something off putting about being in the dark, underwater with the sound of being submerged all around you. Every step forward is like walking into the unknown and the game portrays this very well.

Issue With Demo Build

Now I am not one to normally point out minor bugs, small bugs occur in development all the time and even your most loved video games have them. However when optimisation comes into play I will point that out this game bounces around like crazy. Starting out in the water my pc was running it at a solid 144fps uncapped, but as soon as I started walking these frames went from 144 to 56 to 14 which caused a very laggy camera movement.

Into the setting I went in search of way to lower or alter setting to fix this issue but nothing I capped my frames to 60 fps but unfortunately that didn’t work. The game does not actually recognise that you have enabled this setting.

Our Thoughts

We really enjoyed our time with the game the story is quite cool and the atmosphere is amazingly set. The way the graphics and audio are presented really adds to the eerie horror aesthetics. However the frame drops and performance issues really threw us a bit but we persevered through. I do think these issue would put most people off as I couldn’t find anyway to fix it on my pc. That being said i played a demo which means the game is still in development and it could be an issue with my GPU not liking the title. GPU used was RTX 3060.
