A Chaotic Yet Colourful Coop Puzzler

About The Game

Venture together with your friends on an unknown planet. Use color switching, match-3 shooting, and artifact powers to overcome challenges and keep advancing. What lies ahead of you is an adventure filled with wonder, hope, and much more to discover!

Character Customisation

Upon the start of your adventure you will get to customise your character, there is not much in terms of character customisation here and even though you can have a boy or a girl character all the characters looks feminine, this is not a bad thing by any means and it actually suits the art style of the game however I feel some would prefer a clear difference between genders and clothing and hairstyles to suit.

Playing through the game you will collect currency in doing this and defeating bosses you will unlock the item of clothing in the shop to spend the currency on allowing for more customisation here you can buy, tops, coats, legs, boots, hair, gun camos and more. These choices actually where not all that bad and some actually look really cool I ended up turning my character into some weird pokemon trainer.

Gameplay Loop

Using the map within the Hub you will be able to select a mission, if you’re playing on coop your partner will spawn on the opposite side of the map or at least this is what we discovered during our time with the game.

When you spawn in you will find yourself on an island in the sky a bit like you would see in mario or little big planet, meaning if you fall off the edge you’re going to take some damage.

Sometimes your partner will be able to meet up with your without your input, however there are other time where you will need to assist your partner in tackling a puzzle that requires your colour or a wheel that opens their path.

One together you will be using the colour switch to navigate the map, occasionally you will encounter enemies and this is where the connect 3 system comes into play. Shooting a colour orb at the enemy until there are 3 of the same colour will cause that colour to pop, once all the colours have been popped the enemy will die.

After a few more colour swap puzzles you will encounter a mission boss which plays out in the same way as normal enemies but with more strategies at play.

Our Thoughts

Now I will say we where quick to judge the game immediately saying that it was intended for a younger audience and while I still feel like this maybe the case, I feel the older audience will enjoy however you will need to slog through the first level atleast as once that is out the way it really opens up in terms of difficulty.

We had fun playing POPUCOM it is colourful, puzzles where fast and quirky, boss mechanics where pretty cool. However the game just feels like it’s missing something and I really can’t figure it out.
