This Game Is So Peak!

About The Game

PEAK is a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom. Either solo or as a group of lost nature scouts, your only hope of rescue from a mysterious island is to scale the mountain at its center. Do you have what it takes to reach the PEAK?

Gameplay Loop

The guys over at Landfall must of had some bad experiences with planes because the pilot in Peak always seems to crash anyways its beneficial that they are an awful pilot otherwise we would have Peak. The game sees you and a bunch of friends stranded on an island, using objects around you from the plane wreckage you have to reach the mountain peaks, now this sounds simple however during our climb we have to avoid the ever encroaching fog.

Climbing is not as simple as press and hold a button and climb to your hearts content, here we have to watch our stamina, if we are hurt we have less stamina, carrying a backpack full of useful stuff for the team you will have less stamina, not been paying attention and ate or walked into something poisonous then you will have even less stamina. Thankfully though your team are able to give you a hand and pull you up when your close to the top but don’t have enough stamina to make it.

Peak at heart is a coop game and cooperation is what you need when it comes down to the thick of it. Climbing to the top of the first Mountain will reveal a second mountain, and getting to the top of that will reveal a third mountain. I could not tell you if there was a fourth because unfortunately I could not for the life of me make it past the third mountain on the day that I played.

Map Rotation

Now you may have just noticed that I said that I was unable to complete it on the day that I played and that is because the map actually changes, this seems to happen on a 24 hours basis. This means that if you cant for the life of you complete it on the day your playing when you come back to play again you may have a better time at tackling the challenge ahead of you due to the terrain differences.

Directional Audio

I cannot express enough that you should ditch the Discord call when playing this the directional audio is amazing and it just makes for some seriously funny gaming moments. You might be climbing a cliff and you hear your team mate shout “NOOOOOO!!!” second later you call out to them and are met with silence, you just know that they met their maker. Scurrying back down the hill to find them in order to help them or heal them. These situations would not occur in a Discord call because you would be able to talk to your team when dead and that would take so much comedy away from the game.

Our Thoughts

We absolutely loved our time with Peak, the game is fun and fresh, has tons of replayablity due to the rotating map, directional audio makes for some seriously funny gameplay. The loot can help you through your run but its about making smart choices as a team to get to the top. We highly recommend this game.
