I was pretty disappointed with lords of the fallen back when I first got my hands on the game, I think this is primarily due to the movement and back when I first got my hands on the game I wasn’t all that crazy about it, cut to patch 2.0 and there is so much to be had.
I decided to pick the game back up with the release of 2.0 and I have to say I’m so glad that I did, not only has the game been polished and tons more content has been added to it. Now you can play with a friend that doesn’t even own the game (more on this later).
Lords of the fallen plays so well on the playstation 5 the graphics are very clean. I haven’t personally been able to try the game on the pc so I cannot comment on how it runs over on pc since patch 2.0.
The game itself is pretty much like any other souls like in which you the player have to fight your way through loads of trash mobs to get to a boss kill that boss to progress to the next area and so on, each boss gives you a remembrance soul (a bit like in elden ring and other souls games) take said soul to a person back at base camp to net yourself a nice little boss weapon.
The story in the game is a little obscure but then what souls like game isn’t, you’re going to have to do a little lore diving if you want the in-depth story here.
Bosses within the game seem very well designed and the combat phases within each boss fight are portrayed to the player with clarity.
There are tons of weapons to be had within the game and dual welding is a thing however you cannot swap between left and right hand on the weapons you can 2 hand your right weapon and dual wield but you cannot swap between which I found a little annoying especially if you want to 2 hand the other weapon you have equipped.
Coop since 2.0 allows you and a friend that doesn’t own the game to play together and yes your friend can play through the entire game with you levelling up and keeping their gear and stats so if they eventually do decide to purchase the game they have all their levels and gear still.
To initiate this on the same system just invite your friend via the normal invite route. If your friend is on another system however then you will need to create a multiplayer password and then look for a player and have your friend do the same.
Overall the game is a very good play and I would recommend diving into this with a friend or solo.
