Hordes of Hunger is a rougelite at heart but it does things a little differently from your mainstream rougelites, it is chaotic, interactive and just dam right addictive.

Let’s start this off with the base camp this is your hub if you will and you have access to tons of different things here. The old man (can’t remember his name for the life of me I’ve been back to check 4 times now so the old man works) he is the story teller and yes there is a story quite a deep one actually. The black smith will upgrade things there is a book which is a codex and then mission selector.

So the aim of the game here is to use the mission selector and choose a mission we will cover the first mission, you will spawn into a market that’s strewn with run down buildings, it looks like it’s seen better days. Now within each mission you will be given tasks complete the tasks to earn keys and feathers use the keys to open the chest to get loot. Once you have filled a bar with enough completed missions you will fight a guardian kill said guardian to progress the story.

While you’re killing enemies in mission they will drop orbs a bit like they do in most rougelites, build an xp meter and eventually you level and get to power up but be careful with choosing as some nerd you too.

Now if you manage to get these resources out by exiting early or killing the boss you can use them to power yourself further via making new weapons, abilities and even level up.

I’m actually pleased to say I’ve not encountered any bugs, however when you get to guardian fights mobs on screen can cause some frame dipping nothing to major but there are some stutters here and there.

Overall Hordes of Hunger is a fun chaotic and even sometimes mysterious rougelite with some really cool elements and I would say it’s well worth picking up.
